Warchalker Ben Hammersley near his his home in Kensington. Business leaders today warned of the dangers of a new computer craze called 'warchalking'. * It involves drawing special symbols in chalk on walls and pavements to mark points where signals from nearby office networks can be tapped into to access the Internet. Anyone with a suitably-equipped laptop can then switch on and surf the Web. The new craze has taken off around the world over the last two months on the back of an increase in the number of office computer networks that are connected with wireless signals instead of cables. Warchalking was devised as a concept on June 24 by some friends of Mr Hammersley. He then marked the wall outside his house, after creating a wireless cloud around his house which enables anyone living in or passing through his street to switch on their computer and use his connection. Mr Hammersley has not himself chalked any other premises but the wall outside his own home. See PA story SOCIAL Warchalk. PA Photo: Michael Stephens Get premium, high resolution news photos at getty
